Childhood Diabetes Not Linked to Vaccinations
A large study of more than 700,000 Danish children has concluded that routine childhood vaccinations do not increase the risk of developing childhood diabetes. The study looked at all Danish children born from 1990 through 2000 and found that diabetes rates were not higher regardless of the types of vaccines that were administered.
The study authors said the results should prompt researchers to move on to the more important task of determining what does cause the blood sugar disease in children and finding ways to prevent it. There has been some debate over whether the increase in childhood immunization rates is linked to increasing childhood diabetes rates, but this study and others suggest that a still unknown environmental factor is causing the body to stop producing the insulin it needs to process blood sugar.
